Tho Empire Service League endorsed the League of Nations and passed a resolution calling on its constituent organisations to educate public opinion to the value of tho League's work. A strong; plea for unity anions all ex-service men and for the merging of all returned soldiers' organisations in Canada into one -union of war veterans, with unanimity of ideals of service, was mado by Earl Haig at a veterans' rally. "I love my eld comV?.ck-s, and you ran depend on me to do all I can to help thoso Avho want help," declared Earl Haig. The chairman (Lt.-Col. Lister, of tho British Legion) Major-General Sir Andrew Russell (New Zealand), the Hon. J. Cornell (Western Australia), and .others, from all parts of the Empire joined in the plea. A resolution was adopted expressing profound disappointment at the results achieved under the Empire Settlement Act, 1922.
The Conference resolved that the concessions made by British railways to totally disabled men as to travelling expenses of an attendant, should be made operative throughout the Empire, and that the ex-service organisations of the Empire be acquainted with the good work being done in certain countries by the women's sections of constituent associations with a view to tho general establishment of women's sections to help in the work for exservice men. A resolution was also-carried requesting the Service League to help veterans resident in the Irish Free Stato to negotiate agreements with the Dominions similar to that framed under the Empire Settlement Act. Capt. J. L. Benett (North Ireland) said he could sec no reason why the ex-servico men of Southern Ireland should bo excluded from the benefits of tho settlement scheme because of political changes for which they were not to any great extent responsible.
