CANTERBURY CENTRE. A meeting of (he Canterbury Centre of tho New Zealand Swimming Association was held last evening. Pres-ent — Messrs H. S. Williams (chairman), D. F. Coulter, S. White, E. B. Wheeley, M. C. Simes, M. E. Lyon3, L. Annand, F. J. Sinclair, and F. L. Collins. The report to be submitted at the annual meeting stated that the Centre had had a very successful season, in spite of the curtailment of its activities by the restrictions during the recent: epidemic. Christchurch had been the seat of the last New Zealand championships, in which the Auckland team, a -very strong one, had - carried off the championship honours. The only two events to come to Canterbury were the dive, won by W. T. Keesing, and the water polo championship. J. Enright, of Auckland, was the winner of the- Annette Kel.erman cup which had been decided in Lyttelton harbour. Canterbury, however, had succeeded in wresting the Nordon cup from Wellington. During ths - year inter-club' carnivals were held by United. East Christchurch, Addingtoii, Somerfield, Wharemii, Beckenharu, and Richmond Clubs. Mr W. Cairns Bell had again been- in charge of the instructional classes, but the epidemic had also militated against the success of these. The thanks of the Centre were due. to Mr H. S. Wi'.liams, who had filled the position of nresident, to Mr V. Atkinson, the local officer for the year, to Mr and Mrs A. Brown, for their work in connexion with the Dominion championships, and to all those other persons who helped to -make tbat function a success. It was decided to hold the junior championshins on Saturday mornings, commencing August 32nd. Mr H. S. Williams offered a medal for the winner of the boys' breaststroke event, and the Centre decided to give one for the girls' event in thia section.
