THE WAIMAKARIRI.

MEETING OF RIVER TRUST. . The monthly meeting of commissioners of the Hiver Trust woa held yesterday morning. Present: Mr J. H. Blackwell (chairman) and Messrs W, P. Spenoer, J. Leslie, H. E. Peryman, W. H. Manhire, R. 0. Dixon, and P. G. Hprrell. The chairman extonded a welcome to Mr H. E. Peryman, tho newly-elected member, who has succeeded Mr C. H. Opio, that gontleman having Tesigned, and Mr Peryman was appointed to Works and Reserves Committees.

Overseer's Report. The overseer, Mr T. Jeal, reported that there had been no flood in the "Waimaka-riri river during the past month, and at the present time the river was very low. With regard to groyno work and stop b&nkihg (l'orth bank), the report stated that einco the last meeting No. "6_.ahd 7 groynes had been completed, No. 6 costing £l9O 17s 69, and No. 7 £379 Os 2d. The total number of groynes completed to dato was seven, costing approximately £2590 2s 4d. Respecting the work of stop-banking, the report stated that "A" contract had been completed with the exception of 200 cubic yards by day labour, and including 2000 cubic yards for the elbow banks for the groynes. The cost was £646 5s sd, the number of cubio yarda being 8475. The lowest tender received for this work was £ll6B 2s 6d for 6675 cubic yards; therefore the Trust had saved approximately £750 by doing the work themselves. H. Stemmer and party would have completed "B" in about two weeka' time The payments made to date amounted to £425, the balance to pay £365. Tho number of eubio yards in the contract was 10,400. Mr Miller, contractor, had .completed 45 chains of "C" contract and to date progress payments amounting to £250 had been paid to him; the balance due being £541. The number of cubio yards was 15,820. Mr Miller was also tho contractor for "D" contract, on which 60 far work had not been commenced.

With regard to stop-banking on the main drain, Beker's, the report stated that owing to the wot weather, tho main drain had had too much water in it to push on with the stop-bank. The contractor wtta compelled to leave it for a time, but wculd bo working agan next week. To date, payments amounting to £l5O had been made. The pulling of the willows out of the Cam river had been held up owing to the engine not being able to get about, but should bo completed before next meeting. There were several willows in the Cam river between the Gam bridge and the junction of the Eyre at Kaiapoi, which would bo better* taken out. The cost of this work would bo approximately £SO. The district concerned was not included in the Kangiora County. A commencement had been inado with the fencing of the block at West Melton road for tree planting, and the trees would be planted as soon as tho fence had been erected. On June 26th, the ovemer inspected the Kairaki ehore- in company with members of tho Kaiapoi Borough Council, and found tho work recently put in by them to be badly damaged. That bbdj did not. think that they would repair the work again. More erosion had again taken place nt Mr Mcintosh's farm adjoining Saltwater Creek and the end of his atop-bank was being undermined. The work for the coming month would be:—Grubbing on reserves, preparing for tree planting, protective work on the north bank, and clearing out of tho Cam river. The report was adopted a,nd it was decided to tsk the Kaiapoi Borough Council to meet half the cost of the pulling out of willows on the Cam river.
