BOARD OF DIRECTORS. The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the Christchurch Y.M.C.A. was held on Tuesday, when there were present: Messrs A. F. Carey (president), A. Borrows, John I. Royds, Win. Goss, S. "Wilkinson, F. H. Sandall, J. D. Hall, i 3. L. Partridge, A. 11.I 1 . G. Lyttle, D. E. Patton, J. W. Hillary, and J. MacDougall. Reports were made by the president and general secretary as to an offer which had been made to the Citizens' Committee for the Y.M.C.A. to co-operate, as on the occasions of former naval visits. It was unanimously agreed that the Associatiqn should do all in its power to help in the work of entertaining the naval visitors. Preliminary arrangements were set on. foot on the lines indicated to the Citizens' Committee. It Was agreed that the Y.M.C.A. building .and equipment should be mado available to visiting sailors. • . . • . The chairman of the boys* department, Mr Sandall, reported a full programme of : activities during the past month. He said that 32 new members had joined, giving a total boys' membership of 400. Of theso, 218 came from primary schools, 04 from secondary schools, 113 were employed boys, and 85 Post and Telegraph messengers. The attendances in the building during the past month had been excellent, and kjen interest hud been maintained in outside clubs. The largest recent event was the mother and son banquet, with an attendance of 280. For the physical department, Mr Lyttle reported attendances of .1645 in gymnasium classes, while 180 had participated in tournament games during the month. The annual basketball and volleyball contests were progressing strenuously. These were organised largely for young men who did not take part in outdoor field games. One of the mottoes of the Y.M.C.A, was "Everybody in the game." One of the strong features of the Department was a splendid corps of honorary leaders. It was impossible to speak too highly of their services. The policy of assisting churches and clubs in. conducting suburban gymnasium classes was being continued actively. During- the month two new clubs had been started. The policy of the Y.M.C.A. was, as far as possible, to extend its work to wherever desired. Outdoor clubs were doing well. The chairman of the senior Mr Partridge, reported a full list of activities in the building on the Hues of a four-fold programme. He said that the members cf the cabinet were keenly interested in the work.
Various matters relating to the development of the work were discussed, and referred to committees to make preliminary recommendations.
