RUGBY. SATURDAY'S MATCHES. Next Saturday some very itttereuting games are set down for decision. Tbe principal of these is that between Christchurch and Old Boys, which will he decided on. Lancaster Park oval. The Ked and Blacks were the only side to lower did Hoys' colours duri-u the first round. However, since then ('id Boys have improved, while ChriatchurcU seem to have declined somewhat, so that the general opinion Mas that the position would be reversed in the second round. However, the wonderful return to form shown by Christ church in their match against Liuwoud on Saturday last has made Rugby supporters wonder if tbe decision will bo the same as formerly. Whatever the result, patrons may be assured of seeing a thrilling game of the highest quality. Other fanifs of unusual merit are Albion v. Merivale on the south ground, and Linwood v. Perkins presided at the weekly meeting of the West Coast Rugby Union. It was decided to thank tho Railway Picnic Club for its invitation to members of the representative team to attend Its danco while in Westport.
Mr A. A. Adnms was nominated as a South Island selector. It was resolved to" endeavour to obtain a visit from the Maori touring team. The Inangahua Sub-Union advised that it -was in favour of the nomination of Mr T. Irving as referee for representative matches. The secretary was instructed to advise the Inangahua Sub-Union that the representative team would play a match at Reefton on Sunday, July 12th, on its return from Buller, and a 'Dittman Shield game would be played at Reefton at an early date. Tho Star Club was granted permission to send a team to Reefton. It was resolved to invito the Te Kinga subdivision to play a Coast B team at Greymouth on July 11th, and the Canterbury Union to send a team to the Coast. The fixtures which were drawn up for last Saturday were approved, with the addition of the Cobden-Barrytown junior match at Barrytown. WELLINGTQN BEATS TARANAKI. (press association telegram.) HAWERA, July 1. Wellington played Tnranalci here this afternoon, winning comfortably by 20 points to 11. The visitors played good football throughout, the backs giving an excellent display, while the forwards dominated the greater portion of the game. Taranaki's play was patchy, at times displaying brilliancy, while on other occasions the play hardly was up to interprovincial standard. LEAGUE. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby League was held last evening, Mr T. Kirt'on presiding. The Junior Advisory Board reported that the protest of the Linwood Club against'the Marists Qld Boys Club fifth grade team playing two fourth grade players had been upheld, and that the game had been allotted to the I/mwood Club.
Correspondence was received in reference to the Canterbury team's visit to Wellington on. Saturday next, and the executive elected Air E. Healey us manager of the team, which will leave to-morrow evening. The secretary of the Otago Centre wrote stating that the executive had been granted a ground for the annual interprovincial fixlure, and requested that a suitable date lie decided upon by the local centre on or prior to September 19th.
Jt was decided to enquire the date suitable to the Southern League. The secretary of the New Zealand Council wrote confirming the itinerary of the New Zealand team in Australia. The Queensland Rugby League had denied through the Australian Press that it. had ever stated that it did not desire the New Zealand team to visit Queensland. The team would be insured during the tour. The Council further stated that the ruling applied for in' reference to unfinancial players was not for the jurisdiction of the Coun-oi!, it was a matter for the clubs. Correspondence was received from the Addington Club in "reference to the granting of transfers to players after June Ist, as there was a ruling on the book stating that no transfers could be granted after that date. It was decided that the letter bo received. The Sydenham Club wrote in reference to a senior grade fixture being played at Sydenham Park. It was resolved that the question be referred to the Match Committee. * The .Sydenham Club also wrote withdrawing their sixth grade light weight team from the competition, which was agreed to. The secretary of the Sydenham Club wrote protesting against the Marists B team playing an A grade player last week. The protest was upheld and the match was awarded to the Sydenham Club. An application from the Marists Old Boys Club for the reinstatement of W. O'Loughlin to junior grade was refused. It was decided that the secretary write to Mr G. E. Rhodes, the delegate on the New Zealand Council, to suggest a successor in place of Mr Meltings, who. through pressure of business, was unable to attend the Council meetings. The Committee decided to forward a telegram to Mr J. D. Wingham. congratulating Messrs J. Sanders, A. Green, J. Parkes, F. Henry, and E. H. Ellis on their selection in the New Zealand team for Australia. It was decided that the senior grade fixtures be postponed on Saturday. The ground wa3 in a. bad state cwins to rain, but the sew Zealand team showed surprisingly good form in combined movements.
