FORESTRY LEAGUE.
CANTERBURY BRANCH. The annual meeting of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Forestry league was, held last night, Dr. C. Chilton presiding. In moving the adoption of the annual re* port (which has" been publisbod), the chapman said that the past year had been very satisfactory.- .Visits had boen paid to tlii, Bottlo Lake Reserve and the fiawhjti Domain. There had been' a comprehensive display ot locally-ground exotic "timbers and conifers at the A. and P. Association's show, and the committee had ronowod its award ot prizes for gates made by boys o£ tho secondary schools. A summary of a scheme ot school endowment, plantations inaugurated by Mr T. Tate in Victoria had been distributed among the schools. . The officers -were elected as follows:Chairman, Dr. C. Chilton; vice-chairman, Dr. H. T. D. Acland; secretary and treasurer, Mr 14. Browning; General Committee, Messrs C E. Foweraker, H. Kosendale, M. Bethcli, W. H. Winsor, "W*. A. Banks, "W. "W. Mulhollnnd, "\V. J. Webb, . James Deans, w. Goss. J. Young, B. Seth-Smith, D. Bates, J F. Scott, E. A. Longford, }l. Dalziel. On the motion of Mr W. H. Winsor, it was decided that the financial year should end on Februarv 28th, instead of March 31st. It was decided to offer the same prues as last vearfor; the gate-making competition at the Canterbury A. and P. Association The chairman sai'4 <bat it was proposed to ■stage an exhibit of timber at the 'Royal A. and P. Show at \Christchurch, and also at the International 'Exhibition at Dunedin. Mr Foweraker said that the School of Forestry had added to its collection of specimens of timber! . The' matter of the exhibit was left m the hands of a sub-committee.
