MARINE DISPUTE.
—•——. MR BRUCE INTERVIEWED. CANDID ADVICE TO SEAMEN. {at cablk—rr.rss association—copyright.) (ArSTIUIJAN AND K.S. CiBLE ASSOCIATION.) (Receive.! Juno 30th, 11..3 p.m.) MELHOCRNK, June 30. A deputation representing tho industrial organisations concerned in the shipping dispute waited on Mr Hruco (Prime Minister) with a view to arriving at a settlement through the medium of his interference. The deputation submitted a scheme providing for a round tabic conference to settle any future shipping disputes. Failing a settlement being arrived at tho State Disputes Committee would be called iu to settle tho trouble. If this failed and the dispute threatened to involve other unions of an interstate character, the Commonwealth Disputes Committee, would then make nn effort to settle tho trouble. Mr Bruce, in reply, said ho agreed that a considerable amount had boon done bv Disputes Committees to avoid an industrial upheaval, but the present, trouble had arisen because tho seamen had deliberately forced it upo. themselves, their attitude being that they did not want tho ordinury arbitration machinery of Australia to apply to them. He added that if Mr W:;lsh continued his present attitude Australia was going to experience tremendous iudustrial unrest, and the whole shipping industry would be held tip again. It appeared to him timo for trade unionism generally to repudiate- "Walsh and his doctrines.
Ho (Air llruce) would not interfero, and he advised tlio seamen, if they had a method of settling tho trouble, to submit To to tho Commonwealth Lino management.
