RESOLUTION OP LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. (rBESS ASSOCIATION TELZGKAU ) WELLINGTON, Juno 30. £ In tho Legislative Council this after- ;J noon a resolution was passed ing Mr Massey's distinguished and expressing sympathy with his widow and relatives. The Lcador of tho Council, the Hon. Sir Francis Bell, said that all who knew the late Prime Minister admired him for tho great courage and strength ho displayed during tho war years. Daring tlie 23 years of leadership of his party, he held tho confidence, respect, and admiration of all his followers. Sir Francis referred to the lato Mr Massey's sound, sturdy common-sense, which gained for him a place among tho leaders of tho. Empire. Ho was a leader of leaders. It had come to few men from tho Dominions to hold to tho extent that Mr Massey had dona the confidence of his Sovereign and of successive Ministers of the Home Government. Sir Francis said that as a member of Mr Massey's Administration he preferred to say nothing of the benefit conferred by that Administration. Speaking of his own friendship with Mr Massey, Sir Francis said that ho vaa proud to have been his friend. H« had known no man in his timo so straightforward, so just, and so fair, nor any man more dovoted to his duty. It was a privilege to hare been associated with him iu tho actual work of his life. Sir Francis concluded with tho words which Mr Massey used to quote, which ho said were novcr moro applicable than to Mr Massey;

Statesman, yet friend of truth! Of ioal sincere, In action faithful, and in honour clear; Who broke no promise, carved so private end; Who gained so title and who lost no friend. Tho motion was seconded by Sit Thomas Mackenzie, and other tribute* wero paid by tho lions. B. Moore, T. W. Hislop, Sir John Sinclair, K. ( W. Alison, Sir Frederick Lang, W. 11. Triggs, M. Cohen, and G. J. Garland.
