PERSONAL. (sprcrir. to "the ratss.") GREYMOUTH, Juno 30. At a meeting of the Inangahua Silver Band presentations were made to Messrs A. Tanckhurst (secretary) and F. Sara, •who aro leaving for Wellington and Gisborne respectively. Mr B. ' Will occupied the chair, and presented Mr Panckhurst with a gold-mounted fountain pen and Mr Sara with a set of military brushes. Mr J. D. Wingham, manager of the Now Zealand League team for Ana; tralia, left this morning for Auckland. Mr and Mrs George Dixon, who left Greymouth to-day for Christchurch, where they will in futuro reside, were tendered a social last evening by their friends. Mrs J. O'Brien presided, and presented Mrs Dixon with a Sunshine purse. Tho members of the Watersidcrs' Cricket Club held a function in honour of Mr Dixon, and presented him with the Ward trophy for the best aver ago of the 1924-25 season.
Police Transfers, Sergeant H. Fryer, who has been stationed at Greymouth for tho past four and a-half years, has received notice of transfer on promotion to Beefton, where he will have charge of tho station. Constable J. Smythc, who has been stationed at Ahaura for a similar period, will succeed Sergeant Fryer at Greymouth, the transfer being accompanied by promotion to the rank of sergeant. Constable 8. Gurdon, of Blackball, will take over the Ahaura district. Monthly Statistics. The vital statistics recorded at Greymouth for Juno were:—Births 24, marriages 6, deaths 6. For tho halfyear the figures wero as follows (those for tho preceding half-yoar being given in parentheses):—Births 145 (144), marriages 40 (32), deaths 47 (59). The rainfall for the past month was 4.54 inches. Bain fell on 10 days. The figures for the half-year aro 31.27 inches, with 72 wet days. In June, 1924, the rainfall was 6.70 inches. Magistrate's Court. Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., doalt .with civil, business at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. Andrew Steel, of. Blaketown, proceeded against Ogilvie and Co., sawmillers, for £95 damages in connexion with the construction of tramways on plaintiff's land. Mr Joyce appeared for plaintiff, and Mr Hannan for defendant. His Worship adjourned tho case for a fortnight to enable him to inspect tho land, and evidence to be procured from a licensed surveyor. Mining Matters. It is understood that Work will be resumed at the Millerton mine tomorrow. The dispute at the Wcstport Coal Company's mine at Millerton,. over the employment of men in the order, of application, lias been.settled, and it is expected that work will be resumed on Saturday. Kugby Football.
V. Goodall, a member of the Buller representative fifteen, has been disqualified until the end of tho present season for striking an opponent. Goodall is probably the best forward iit tho Buller district,- and his absence from the Seddon Shield team will be a groat handicap.
Westland Sub-Union. At the weekly meeting of the' "Westland Sub-Union, it was reported that a satisfactory arrangement had been arrived at with the Bordugh Council regarding tho uso of Cass square, and an agreement had been negotiated with the West Coast Union, with regard to representative matches. It was resolved to invite tho Ashburton Sub-Union to send a team to Hokitilta. The secretary was instructed to onquiro from the West Coast -Union the. financial arrangements for the representative fixture at Hokitika. Buller Rugby Union. At tho wcefcly meeting of the Buller Rugby Union tho Pirate Club was given permission to send its junior tcani on tour to the West Coast, and the Rover Club's application for leave to send its senior team to Takaka and Motueka. was granted! In reply to a complaint from the Mokihinui Club,.the secretary'was instructed to state that tHo Referees' Association controlled the appointment of icfereos. .

Obituary. The death occurred last evening at tho Bullcr Hospital of Mrs Griffiths, wife' of Mr Geo. Griffiths, of Blvchfield. Deceased is survived by her husband and an adult family. Weddings. Tho wedding was solemnised at St. Canicc's Church, Westport, of Mr Erriest, Walsho to Miss x Esther Carter. Miss Dora Johnson was bridesmaid, and Mi- Ralph Harvey best mail. Mr Douglas McKnight, second son of Mr and Mrs John McKnight, of Groymouth, was married thia morning at St. John's Church, Greymouth, to Miss May Croy, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Croy, of Westport. Tho Eev. T. N. Cuttle officiated. Miss Agnes McKnight, sister of tho bridegroom, was bridesmaid, and Mr J. McKnight best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of tho bridegroom's parents, and the-happy couple left later by the express, on route for Dunedin, where the honeymoon will be spent. Snow at Arthur's Pass. To-day's westward bound express was slightly delayed by the fall of snow below Arthur's Pass,"but most of the lost time was made up in the run from Otira.
