"THE MERCHANT OF VENICE" TO-NIGHT.
Chris(..-Ir.iTdi playgoers are lockitir forward t<i the production of "The Merchant of Venire," which wilt open at the Theatre Koyal to-night. The play, when presented by Maurice Sloscovitch in London, aroused tremendous interest, the leading newspapers devoting considerable space to references to the production generally, and Mr Mo'.covitch's performance- of tho role of Shylcek in particular. It is Mated that ho enacts the part of f>'i>lock with an art that conceals art, and his perforroar.ee marks him as a great actor. He holds hi? audience with the crip that is the f-uro mark of wonderful acting. It was in this rolo that Mr Mosi-ovitrh rirst made his name on the English-speaking Mage, and he has played it in America. Kngland, Europe, Fouth Africa, and Australia. In V'.urope he has played it ia six countries' rind in. as many languages. It is said that the Uoscovitch Shrlock is novel, and this actor, lo:iz associated with the Yiddish Theatre in many lands, presents from the inside a, real Jew. His work is so gripping that it is as it "The Merchant" were being presented for the first time. "The Merchant of Venice" will be played for three nights only. "The Outsider."
The last presentation by the famous actor, Maurice Moscovitch, of "The Outsider." took place at the Theatre Royal last night, when there was another large audience.
