PARITUTU TRAGEDY.
CLIMBER FALLS 500 FEET. . (press association.telegram) ' «b NEW PLYMOUTH, June 2D. James. Seanlan, .aged 19, ou the reporting staff of the "Taranaki Herald,'.' disappeared from near the summit of Paritutu on Sunday afternoon. He and a companion named Stephenson had undertaken to -climb the rock' which is 500 ft high, and were quite' closo to the summit when Seanlan, who was an experienced climber, decided to climb round a difficult point of the rock, while Stephenson took an easier track. When Stephenson reached the summit a few minutes later there was no sign of Seanlan, who apparently had missed his footing and fallen. Search parties were sent out and two young men climbed the rock in the darkness, but r.o traco was found. The search .was resumed'this morning, when signs of a fall wore found indicating that the body will be found in the sea at the base of '. the rock. [Paritutu is a pinnacle rock near the breakwater at Moturoa, the roadstead harbour of New Plymouth. On one side the rock is easily scalable, but the other sides are not easy to climb.''!
