REFORM PARTY.
ORGANISER FOR CANTERBURY. MR A. E. LOACH APPOINTED. At a meeting of the executive of the Canterbury Brunch, of tlio Reform Partv, held yesterday, it was decided to appoint Mr A. E. Loach organiser for the Party in that part of Canterbury from the Ellesmere electorate in tho"south to the Hurunui electorate in the north. Mr Loach will take up his duties immediately.
The first matter to claim Mr Loach s attention will be the 'pos.ii.on winch ha* arisen in se\eral electorates owinir t;> several candidates in. the, Reform interest offering their services. 'ln© o.gar.iser will visit these electorates at an eariy dace with the view of arrant:mg conferences between Reform supporters from all parts of each electorate in ordtr that they may decide,' with as little delay as possible, whu-ii of the .candidates offering shall bo the official candidate. ■At the same time Mr Loach will carry out the organising of these electorates and, where necessary, form branches of the Reform Party.
Mr f.oarli' has been a resident' in Canterbury for the past 36 years ami during the past 26 or 27 years has taken an active part, in different electorates, in running Reform candidates. At the last General Election he was a candidate in tho Reform interest for Avon and put nn a cood fight against tho three other candidates. Mr Loach saw active service in the Boer War, leaving the Dominion with the Second Contingent. Ho also saw active service in the Great War and was wounded at Gallinoli, his wound no'-cssitatinjr tho amputation of his left leg.
HURUNUI ELECTORATE MR N. D. CAMPBELL TO STAND. A deputation, supported by the following electors, Sir Georgo Clifford (Stoneyhurst), Messrs H. Ensor (Lobura), J. McCracken (Loburn), A. Todd (Waipara), E. Parsons (Kaikoura), 11. Acton-Adams (Motunau), H. T. Littlo (Hawarden), B. L. Blunden (Waikari), A. T. AJlan, A. Allan (Waikari}, F. Courage (Amberley), M. Bethcll (Culverden), D. Sidoy '(Hawarden), T. Wittington (Motiuiau), Dr. Burnett (Oxford), Major Johnston (Springfield), Major Howell (Spnngneid;, and Mrs Allan (Waikari), waited upon Mr N. £>. Campbell at Waikari yesterday afternoon and asked him to contest tho seat in tho Beform interests at the forthcoming general election. Mr Betholl assured Mr Campbell that his acceptance of nomination would receive the general approval of Eeform supporters throughout the electorate, and hoped that he would view tho matter in a favourable light. It was further pointed out that Mr Campbell had been associated with the district since boyhood, and naturally had the interests of North Canterbury at heart. Mr Campbell Baid lie wns very much impressed with, their kind remarks and appreciated the great honour they had done him in asking him to stand. He felt somewhat diffident at accepting such an honour, and yet at tho same time ho could not overlook tho importance of such a request. He expressed the belief that he could at any rate put the whole of his ohorgy into the work if roturned. "I llavo always supported the present Government party, and will continue to do so. My local body experience has given me knowledge wherein I can most effectively assist legislation thas will be of great advantage to ovory section of the community. I feel that I would bo lacking in my duty to you if I did not comply with your wishes."
WAKATIPU, (PBESS ASSOCIATION TELEQIUM.) DUNEMN, June 29. At a largely attended meeting of Reform supporters at Roxburgh on Saturday, Mr James Ritchie, who contested the- Wakatipu scat at the last election against the sitting member, was unanimously selected as the Reform candidate for Wakatipu at the General Election.
