Mr J. B. Merrett. returned from the south last night. Mr .W. It. Saunders (Wellington) is staying at Warner's Hotel. Messrs A. Hall, l'\ R. Fairley, and W. H. "Morris (Wellington) are Staying at the Clarendon Hotel. \ Mr V. Peters, of the Post Office Savings Bank, Greymouth, has received notice of transfer to Christchurch. . Mr F. T. Kissel, Chief Electrical Engineer, Publb Works Department, arrives from Wellington to-day and will visit the Lake Coleridge power station. Sub-Inspector A. Cameron, who has been trr.nuferred from Christchurch to the position of Inspector at Gisborne, lett for the north by last night's ferry steamer. At yesterday's meeting of the Board of •Governors of Canterbury College a vote of appreciation was passed of tliß services of Messrs G. T. Weston and J. J. l3ouga.ll, who have retired. TII3 resignation of Mr J. S. Dodds, as representative o« the Akaroa High School Board, ok the ground of illhealth, was accepted at yesterday's meeting of the Board of Governors of Canterbury College Mr J, Miller, clerk of the Auckland Magistrate's Court, and formerly Registrar of the Supreme Court at Hamilton, will succeed Mr W. Samson as Sheriff and Registrar of the Supreme Court at Christchurch.
Mr James M. Simmers, M.A., has been appointed to the position of mathematics and science master at the John McGlashan College (Duneflin) in place of Mr J. A. Dunning (Rhodes scholar), who will leave- for Oxford in August. Tho Christchurch theatre managers met yesterday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr J. Robertson, -who has-re-signed his position as manager of the LiDbrty Theatre. On behalf of the Managers' Association, Mr Walter O. Jttclsdon presented Mr Rol>ertson with a gold-mounted ebony walking-stick, suitably inscribed, as a testimony of tho esteem in -which he was held by his colleagues. M,r Helsdou, in; his remarks, referred to the good work, dono by Mr llobertson as secretary of the Association, and expressed a hope that he would bo successful in the new career he wa3 undertaking. Tho good wishes were endorsed by Messrs Waters, Beebe, Jagger, Mathews, Rowley, Lane, and Orant. In his reply Mr Robertson referred to his happy associations with his fellow-managers, and expressed his regret at leaving the .Association.
