Medical Superintendent; of the Grey Elver Hospital, lias recovered from bis recent illness, una will resume bis duties to-morrow. Mr Leslie William Louisson is gazetted clerk of the Licensing Committee for tho district of Westland, vice Mr C. W. Carver, transferred. Mr H. Ellory, of Grcymouth, who has been visiting the United States, has returned to the West-Coast. Mr A. l.'ani-.khm-st, . of the National Bank, Reefton, has received notice of transfer of promotion to Wellington. He is a prominent member of tho. Pirates Football Club. The Hon. H. L. Michel, M.L.C., arrived from Wellington on Saturday. There'was a large attendance of friends at the funeral of the late Mr Jonas Yergurson, which took place this afternoon at Earoro Cemetery. Deceased was a Past District President of the Druids' Lodge, and about 60'members'marched in the cortege. ' The services at deceased's residence and the graveside were conducted by the Rev. F. J. Martin, and Bfo. J. Tennent, P.G.P., read the Druids' service. Water Supply. Complaints are being made against ■lhe quality of the municipal water at Westport/ It is stated to have an obnoxious tasle. Kumara Borough Council. At the fortnightly meeting of the. Kumara Borough Council it. was resolved to take measures to limit the speed of motor vehicles passing through the town. Mr J. McFarlane was appointed examiner of applicants for motor drivers' licenses. It Was resolved to ask the chief postmaster to reinstate the .Morse Liniment at (lie Kumara Post Office. A resolution was carried in favour of a public meeting to, set up a committee as a preliminary step in connexion- with the celebration of Kumara's jubilee. Hokitika Borough Council. At the fortnightly meeting of the Hokitika Borough Council, the Library Committee reported on the' progress of the renovation work. It was resolved to tar seal Revolt street from Hamilton street to Weld street,.and to obtain a report as to the advisability of purchasing a, tar boiling'plant similar to that in use at Grcymouth. The Council also decided to hold a, special meeting to consider -works upon which the balance of the loan money will.-be expended. The duplication of the water supply line from Kanicri Forks to the roscrvoir will be discussed. A Road for Euru. With the completion of the section of the Moana-Ruru road, for which Messrs Ingram Brothers'have the contract, the Rufu-district will be brought within sight of road access. The district has boon suffering for many years from the isolation caused by tlie failure of the Public Works Department and the local body to push on with the roads. One of tho difficulties encountered was the shortage of suita'ble'labour. Alleged Gaining-House. Another prosecution is pending at Westport in connexion with tho police campaign to suppress bookmaking. The owner iff a billiards saloon is to be charged with -using:-his,premises as a common gaming-house. Westport Poultry Show. -Although.at first it was thought the prospects for the Westport Poultry Show were dubious, it proved a. great success.
