The following additional promotions and transfers in tho Police Force are announced:., Sergeant D. J. O'Neill, Wellington, is transferred to Taihape to replace Sergeant Mathews, retiring. Sergeant T. H. Dwyer, Wellington, will take chargo at Masterton, vice Sergeant J. Sweeney. Sergeant Sweeney has been promoted to senior sergeant at Hamilton. Constable J. Melville, Wellington, is promoted to sergeant, and will take up duties in the central station, Wellington. Inspector Hutton, Gisborne, is retiring. His place will be filled by Sub-Inspector A. Caire>:ui, Christchurch, who has been promoted to inspector. Lieut.-Colonel R. L. Evatt who has been given tho command of the Ist Battalion, Wellington Regiment, has completed 27 years' military service, havine joined the College Rifles on Juno 3rd, 1898* and served continuously over since. He saw service with the oth New Zealand Mounted Rifles intho South African War. 1901-2. securing the Queen's Medal, with five clasps. He was a member of the Expeditionary Force, which captured Samoa in 1914, holding tho rank of captain, and served subsequently with the 2nd Battalion, Wellington Regiment, on tho Western Front until ho was wounded in 1918. Ho holds the Long and Meritorious Service Medal and the Colonial and Auxiliary Forces' Officers' Decoration.
