HEATHCOTE COUNTY COUNCIL.
». j - The Heathcote County Council met last night. Present—Crs. '(J. Plavell, A. H. Adams, W. W. Scarff, B. Riley, H. Moore, and \V. Kerr. A deputation from the- Tramway Board, consisting -of Messrs H. Pearce, J. A. .Flesher, and W. J. Wa.ter, was received by the Council, arid discussed tramway matters affecting Heathcote and Mount Pleasant in "committee. Regarding the erosion of the banka of the Avon arid Heathcote rivers, the City Council wrote advising that the Drainage Board was approached, but had advised that they were not responsible for the upkeep of the banks. The City Council having been put to considerable expense in connexion with the "matter, it was proposed to approach the Government with a view to legislation being enacted placmg upon, the Board the responsibility of making good any damage done to tihe nver banks by erosion. It was decided to support the City Council in the endeavour to obtajn, the desired legislation. The Inspector reported that arrangements had been made- with the City Council's Engineer to do patching on Kerr's road, Avonside. The'drain3 in Avonside would be cleaned oiit within" \ few days. In the Valley riding a footpath and water table with 70 feet of concrete kerb was being done en Hills road. Alter metal and screenings had been put on the Hount Pleaea.nt road the slips on the upper part of the read would be removed.
