TRAMWAY FARES.

TO THE IDITO2 OT . "THE FBE3S." ] Sir.—Your correspondent '•Reason" mentions the loss on concession cards a3 disclosed by figures given by the chairman' of the Board recently, but I would point out that the figures given arc made up on the assumption that it-costs-twice as much to convey a passenger twj. miles, as. .to convey him enc mile, and eight times as much for an eight-mile trip as a one mile trip. In a previous letter, I have raised this question and sought to show that such a basis of reckoning- is unfair to the longdistance-rider, as compared ■ with the short. distance rider, but, ?r> far, I have seen no reference r/.ado to my contention by either the Tramway Board or any other correspondent. Yet it seems to me that, if costs of conveyance are to be quoted at all, it is only' right that some attempt should bo made to state more accurately the costs of conveyance for tho different mileages, and not merely assume, that ".so much ner mile" can he applied to one mile and eight mile trips, as welt as all distances hetwocn theso extremes.—Yours, etc.. ACCOUNTANT.
