LIFE-SAVING
SIR JOHN HALL SHIELD. The annual life-saving competition for the Sir John Hall Shield, held under the auspices of the Canterbury Head Centre of the Royal Life-Savins Society, took place at the Tepid Baths last evening. The conditions of the contest were the same as those for the proficiency certificate of the Society. The result was: — Christchurch Boys' High School No. 1 team (V. G. Spiller, G. D. Grnfiths, E. Lumm, and R. J. Fyfe; A. S. Cookson, instructor), 445 i points • • • ■ • • - 1 Sumner Life-Saving Ciub (A. F. Taylor; T. Climie. G. W. Browne, and B. N. Buttle; F. J. Glackin. in""structor), 444 points .. ■• - Bovs' High School No. 2 team (R. D. " Lumsden, M. P. Hall, 11. J. Allard, and W. Mealings;. C. F. Jones, instructor), 432£ points . . 3 All the teams gave a very fine exhibition of land drill, and both the rescue and resuscitation movements were good. The judges criticised the promotion of warmth as being too slow and rather exaggerated in the movements. The water work all round was excellent, and the judges praised especially the work of the High School No. 2 team, which, for such young boys, was splendid. The release methods of the teams in the water was also praised. The work cf the first two teams as indicated by the points gained was remarkably even. The points gained by each team in the respective sections were:— Land Water Work. Work.
