HUNTING.
CHRISTCHURCH HOUNDS. (Contributed.) The meet for last Saturday was held at Charing Cross. Owing to so much wot weather the country has become very soft, and the meet, which should have been at Mr Bedford's, Kirwee, had to be filtered, and the above place being comparatively good going, with a lot of old pasture, it was decided to hunt on the lato Mr Christopherson's farm. Although hares were numerous at times two good runs were obtained, each resulting in a kill. After drawing one paddock blank- hounds were not long finding a strong hare in the next, which made away south towards Mill. Shiple.y'3 farm. After crossing the Norwood-Charing Cross road the hare circled left-handed back into the country she was found in, and with a catchy scent gave the pack a most difficult task to stick to the lino. Skirting the homestead, the liare swung left-har.ded towards Charing Cross, and after circling round was finally pulled
down on the road. ' Anotner good run started close to the previous kill, and after crossing three big paddocks of old grass, with hounds hunting very slowly, the hare turned right-handed over the road into Mr Shipley's. On reaching some green feed scent at once became better, and houndß were away at top. Stretming -up", the headland' they hurried her along till she-turned rigbt-handed across a paddock of rape, and then across grasa Unfortunately hounds checked-, but Selby quickly put tnem right, and skirting a small clump of trees turned again right-handed out on to the grass road. Heading towards Norwood we galloped down the road for half a milt, then left-handed off the road only to come straight back again, an® aftnr dr short burst the pack lulled on the roadside. It was quite a good run, with plenty of jumping, but a great pity that scent was not better: however, everybody thorouglily enioyed it, and those members who had their point-to-point candidates out were all Satisfied that their horses had . had. a good The annual point-to-point steeplechases and farmers' races will bo held on Saturday, July 4th, at a place to be advertised.
