ADVERTISING EMPIRE FOODSTUFFS.
INSTRUCTIVE DISPLAY AT WEMBLEY. (yBOM OUS OV/K CORRESPONDENT.) LONDON, May . 20. Special attention is being paid to the advertising and branding of Empire goods at Wembley this year, and'an exhibit arranged to illustrate tho importance of this policy has been staged by tho Association of British Advertising Agents. - , . The exhibit consists in the mam Oi bad examples and shining examples—tho one to be firmly avoided, the other to be emulated on every occasion. One side of the room is devoted to three models on homes entitled, "Hope House," "Slum House," and "Empire House." The first shows a comfortable modern villa, in front of which are ranged household necessities of all kinds. All are well known and widely advertised lines, carefully packed and branded. "Slum House" shows a depressing array of anybody's butter, anybody's fruit, and "anybody's food necessities of all kinds. The goods are dirty, inferior looking, and well mixed with flics, dust, and cigarette-ends. ''Empire House" shows carefully packed, graded, and branded commodities, all from- some part of the Empire, and guaranteed to be excellent in quality and low in price —but few are known to the British housewife, because these goods are not sufficiently advertised. On tho other side of the hall is another striking comparison on rather similar lines. The centre space is occupied at present by a fine show of Australian fruit, graded, packed, and clearly branded, and also bv _ various well-known brands of dried fruits from America. The object of this display is to impress on housewives the need for asking for goods which have stood tho test of advertising, and on manufacturers the value of a consistent policy of advertising.
