It is understood that tho Government's legislative programme includes Hills dealing with proposals in connexion with advance* to settlors, au amendment of tho arbitration law. accident insurance, consolidation of land laws, stone quarries, and public works. Tho sitting of tho Legislative Council after tho opening ceremony will bo brief. Precisely what the Houso will do has not bean decided. Tiicro will bo formal notices and questions, and it is quite -likely there will bo no shortage- of them. On either Thursday afternoon or Friday afternoon references will bo mado in the House to tho death of Mr Massev, when the Prime Minister will move "that the Houso record its high sense of the distinguished services rendered to New Zealand by tho late Mr Mnsssy, and respectfully tender tr> his family an assurance of its gince.ro sympathy witli them in their bereavement. lie sides Mr Massey. several othej-s who have at times occupied seats in the Legislature have pissed away sinco Parliament was last in session.
