CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
The Canterbury Caledonian Society's fortnightly social, held on Monday', was most successful. Over 500 members and friends were present. Tho president, Mr C. h. Thomas, occupied the and was sup" ported by Messrs G. Kitchie and G. Sey (vice-presidents). During the evening six new members were elected, bringing the total ot' new members for the season up to i>4. The programme was in the hands of Messis U. Ritchie (vice-president) and F. G. Bell (director of the Society), and the following contributed items: —Selections _by the Society's Pipe Band, under Pipe-Major J. Shanahan;' songs by Mr 0. Bills, Mr Rodda, Mr Bracy Wilson. Miss Bowbyes, and Mr t). Courtney; recitations by Mrs H. McLeod and Mr Laurenson; monologue by Master Noel "Newson; 'musical trio by Mrs E. A. Smith" '(piano), Nora Smith ('cello), and Joan Smith (violin) ; Hawaiian music by Mr K. Butterfield and Miss Butterfleld (the_ latter alsp contributed a vocal item); violin solo f>y Miss Wilson; and piping selections by Piper Campbell. The Highland was danced by Miss Irene Bell; Seann Triubliais by. Miss Doris Bell; and the Highland reel by Misses D. Caldow, It. Peterson, V. Robertson, and Doris Bell, The accompanists were Mrs K. A. Smith, Miss Neate, Miss and Miss Bradford. A dance :oifo\ved the concert programme, tho music being supplied by iirs E. A. Smith and Mr F. P. J rye.
