ASHBURTON. GENERAL NEWS. A sixt-eeu-year-old "boy named llapley, who suffered a fractured knee in a football match on Saturday, bus been admitted to the Ashburion County Hospital. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Tinwald Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., was held 011 Monday, IX.G. Bro. 11. L. Tremain presiding. It was resolved to accept tho invitation of tho Loyal Methven Lodge to attend its Silver Jribilee ball. One candidate was initiated. It -was decided to have the names on the merit board brought up to date. Quite mild weather conditions, brought about by a north-west wind which sprang up on Monday, were experienced in Ashburton yesterday. The sky was overcast last- evening, and a further chango seemed imminent. Tho following will represent Ashburton Wanderers against Baring Square on Saturday: —Ilardv, Anderson, Cairns, Beauvais. Anderson, Isieholls, Koss, Harris, Thompson. Mulvcv, and Hoff. Reserves: Ford and Moore.
Collie Dog Club. Final arrangements for t.lio annual trials were made at a meeting of the committee of the Ashburton Collie Dog Club, held last evening. There were present: Messrs D. McMillan (chairman), A. Jary, N. Butler, D. Robertson, T. Drennan, J. Evans, A. McMillan, J. Wall, and M. McMillan. Messrs Gilbert Grigg and E. B. Xewton wrote thanking the club for electing them vice-presidents. Each enclosed a cheque for '£2 Mr H. T. Little, of Hawarden, wrote stating that he was endeavouring to arrange for Mr A. C. Morton, of the North Island, to judge at the trials. Failing that arrangement, lie would undertake tho duty himself. It was reported that about 19 special prizes had been promised and, with the exception of minor alterations, they had been allocated in the samic way as last year.
It was resolved to award a special prize of two guineas to tho maiden dog gaining tho most points in Classes 1 or 3.

Nurse Wallace, of the Rakaia Maternity Home, lias received word that she has passed tho State examination in midwifery. The fortnightly -meeting of Lodge Rakaia, No. 85, 1.0.0. F., was held on Monday, Bro. F. Wilson presiding. Correspondence was received from the Grand Secretary regarding the scale of charges for new members. The following officers were elected: —N.G., Bio. C. Burns; V.G., Bro. S. F. Campbell; secretary, Bro. D. Newman; treasure!. Bro. C. Shannon. A vote of sympathy was passed to Bra. Rule in the death of his mother.
MOUNT SOMERS. Though thero is no £olf club at Mt, Somers, tho game claims many devotees, whose ranks have been increased lately by new disciples. It is net uncommon to see players, either singly or in pairs, teeing off or pursuing the elusive ball over courses that, whatever their »other merits, provide plenty of cxercijio in overcoming bunkers. Some of the players display considerable skill, and there is the nucleus of a strong club in the district. At the Men's Club on Monday nichfc, it was announced that a donor, who wished to remain anonymous, had presented two prizes for the euchr« tournaments. Nest week's meeting was cancelled owing to the annual householders' meeting. Mr Hunter took the chair for the question box, tho winning question being "Should Lyons have been deported?" (Mr I*. Croft), and the second being a tie between Messrs Witheil and Jonez with ''Are Polar Expeditions Useless?" and "Is a Monarchy better than a Republic?"
