ADDINGTON COMPLAINTS.

A COUNCILLOR'S REPLY. Tho Addington Burgesses' Association, at a meeting last week, made a series of complaints ..regarding tho alleged neglect of the district bv. tli3 City Council. A reply io the complaints was made yesterday iby C'r. 10. H Andrews, chairman of tin* Works Committee, and formerly chairman of the lleservos Committee. Cr. Andrews said that every year money was spent on the Jcrrold street reserve. He admitted the time had arrived for painting the band B'otunda, and money for the purpose was already included in the draft estimates to go before the Finance Committee. The people of Addington, however, should take more dntwest ■in their own reserve, for considerable destruction to the rotunda had occurred, and cows belonging to residents had boon allowed to graze in tho reserve. So far as the roads were concerned, be had inspected tho streets of the district, and found them to be in a condition no-worse than that of other suburban streets. Steady attention would be given to tho streets so tar as the money available would allow Tho matter of footpath asphalting could be settled by the. people of the district themselves, for where no loan monev was provided for the purpose the. Council would asphalt tho footpaths at a charge of 6d per lineal foot, which was about one-third of the actual cost of the work. That method was really cheaper than raising a loan for the purpose. Cr. Andrews added that the alleged grievances must have been Only recently discovered, for on February 23rd of this year the Town Clerk had received the following letter from the socretarv of the Addington Burgesses Association:-"! was instructed by the annual meeting of .the Addington Burmesses' Association to thank the City Council for tho many courtesies shown to the Association during the past vear, all of which we appreciate very much, and to express a hope that the came favourable treatment may be given during the present year.
