FIRE-ENGINE SMASH.
Cr. Cooke's motion (which is printed oa page 3), which was taken at a later stage of last night's meeting of tho City Council, was seconded by Cr. Carr.
Cr. A. McKollar said the request in the motion was not tho proper way to deal with the question. Cr. W. J. Sim said that if citizens had not enough sense to get out of the way of ilie.fire-engine, then no resolution adopted by the Council could help them. The motion wrfs lost on tho voices. The Council expressed its sympathy with the relatives of the fireman killed, and also with the men injured.
