PERSONAL. (SrECIAL TO "the press.") GREYMOUTH, Juno 22. Mr J. O'Brien, M.P., leaves to-mor-row for Wellington. Messrs H. Yeadon, L. Inkster, and A. Parkinson (Greymouth), and Mr 11. Thiem (Hokitika) have returned from Christchurch, where they attended tf'e School of Photography. Mr W. H. Ruston, ophthalmist to the New Zealand Railways, is visiting the Coast on Departmental businses. He will leave for Christchurch to-morrow. Messrs T. Whittle, E. Lock, and H. Evans left to-day for Wellington, where they will attend the annual conference of the United Mine Workers' Association. Mr J. George, of Threadneedle street, is suffering from a serious illness. The death occurred this morning at the Grey River Hospital of Mr Michael Thornton, son of Mrs M. A. Thornton, proprietress of the Albion Hotel. Deceased was present at a football match on Saturday, but took ill during the night with double pneumonia, and death occurred at 8 a.m. to-day. Deceased, who was 36 years of age, was a native | of No Town, and served with the Expeditionary Forces. He was badly gassed at the front. His mother, three sisters, and a brother are left to mourn their loss. Mr D. Beeße, representative of th 9 New Zealand Cricket Council, has taken evidence at Greymouth in connexion with the Wingham Cup dispute, and this will be submitted to the Council for further consideration. Magistrate's^Court. Mr W. Meldrum, S.M., presided at to-day's sitting of the Magistratg's Court; „ Colin Campbell, licensee of .the Recreation Hotel, was charged with keep ing open for sale and selling liquor on Sunday, Juno 14th. Mr J. W. Hannan appeared for defendant, and entered a plea of guilty. A fine of £2 and costs was imposed. Patrick Crannitch, licensee of tho Royal Hotel, was charged with keeping his premises open for the sale of liquor ; exposing liquor, and selling liquor dur ing prohibited hours on June 6th. Mr Hannan, who appeared for defendant, entered a plea of guilty. A fine of £2 and costs £1 13s was imposed. Kughy Football* Playing at Reef ton yesterday, United seniors suffered defeat by 28 points to 7. The ground was greasy, and the handling of tho home team was superior. . Greymouth Stock Sale. Thirty head of cattle were yardel for to-day's stock sale at the Preston road, -yards. . Prime ox beef brought. 35s per 1001b, and cow beef 255. From 60. to 70 sheep of .good quality were yarded. Wethers brought £2 0s 6d per head. The following wero some or the sales:—On account of- a client (South W.estla-nd): 3 medium weight fat bullocks at £11; 4 Hereford bullocks at £ll, 3 at £lO 15s; 3 fat cows at £5 17s. 6d; 1 vcaler at £2 19s 6d, 1 at £2 15s, lat £2 10s, 2at £2. Te Kinga Land Co.: 21 wethers at £2 0s 6d; 22 ewes at 365; 11 fat lambs at 31s (id, 12 at 295.
