CHRISTCHURCH-NELSON HIGHWAY.
A MOTORIST'S CRITICISM,
(special to "the PRESS.") HLENHEIM, June 21. Mentioning at a meeting of the, Marlborough Automobile Association that ho recently travelled to Christchurch and back by road, and had also been through to Nelson on two occasions in the last few weeks, Mr R, P. Furness, the president, said he felt bound to say that the roads in Marlborough and Awatere Counties compared more than favourably with those in the Canterbury and Nelson Land Districts. The road from Blenheim south was in good order practically ns far as the HurunUi, when it deteriorated more or less into a succession of ruts and potholes extending almost to Christchurch. The some thing applied to the Blenheim-Nelson road, whlf?h was good as far as the Eni Saddle, but from there on left a great .deal to be desired. The Wakapuaka road was be'ing metalled, but a lot of repair work was required, especially from the Nelsou end of the Whangamoa to the top of the Il.ai. ; "It makes me sore," ho concluded, "to see big dumps of road metal all alon,g this stretch of highway and all ready to put down, but no one even goes near them!"
