MISCELLANEOUS CABLES.
On the- CYC of going to Australia (says a London cable) Madame Clara Butt and Mr Kenncrlev Rumford gave a farewell concert at Bristol on Friday. which was the anniversary of their silver wedding. Madame Clara Uint arranged to wear the wedding dress and Mr Rumford the frock coat in which they were married.
Tokyo reports that a bulletin states that the Emperor's condition is slightly worse, but not dangerous.
A Santiago says it is estimated that 50 persons were killed in the recent uprising in the northern province of Chile. Government- troops used artillery to expel the rioters from their positions.
A Rome message says: Prince Philip of Hesse served in the, German arni>v, and has lived here almost continuously smco the war. Tho a unoim cement of liis engagement'has given rise to speculation, bec-ayse the Prince is a Protestant and Princess Mat'alda is a Roman Cat-holie. It is believed that the Roman Church will allow the marriage according to its rites, each partner retaining his or her religion, but the children will be trained as Roman Catholics.
Among Australian and Xcw Zealand passengers arriving here by the Niagara to-day (says a Honolulu message ou Friday) were sixteen delegates to the Institute of Pacific Relations, opening on July !lst. Mr Duncan Hall, chairman of the Australian delegation, said: "We of Australia are very much hopeful of a full and constructive discussion of preparations for peace, namely, the massing of forces for this purpose, tho outlining of the methods of attaining it, and the best possible, enjoyment of it, when it, is obtained." Members of the Central Executive Committee of the Institute met the delegates. A London message states that Alfred Lester, comedian, left. £37,000.
