TO TBS BMTO* OV "THE PMSS." Sir,—l was pleased to see "Ratepayer's"' letter on this subject, for I, too, am a Sumner ratepayer, and live .sn,a,part of the borough, Upper. Clifton, where our only road is atrocious, and its footpath has been made on the ■wrong side, so that it is constantly sub- .; JDctto slips, greasy: with clay, and generally unusable. Before any fresh roads' are formed for motorists' pleasure, or any new, and expensing foot-ipaths-.made .to. save motorists from inconvenience. I think this, and similar matters should be attended to, and I disagree with "Ratepayer" to .that extent,. . also in thinking as'he apparently •.does,,; that . road-formation should be paid for. out of general rates. But the Sumner Borough Council would \i\ do far better for it« ratepayers all ii : rpund if it would give its roadmen's ?i : more, adequate inspection.
