ASHBURTON POULTRY
SOCIETY.
The Ashburton Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Society's annual Winter Show was opened yesterday. There was a falling offintho entry of poultry, but the excellence, and high ctandard of tho exhibits were equal to that of previous fixtures. In many cases the judges had a hard task in making their final selections. Tho South Island Pigeon and Canary Association allotted champicn6liips :n tho poultry sections to Black Orpingtons, Utility Minorcas, also to any fancy pigeon and to smoko blue or black female Persian cats. Tho New Zealand Kennel Club allotted challenge classes to Irish. Setter dogs and bitches. The public were treated to oie of the finest displays of field roots, garden prcduco and general farm products that has been 6een at tho winter show. The South Island Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Association's championships were won by Mrs E. Davidson (Black Orpingtons), and Mrs S. H. Webb (Utility Orpingtons). The Association's cup for the beet young bird irt tho show was won by -Mr S. Bcauvais with a whito single comb Leghorn cockerel. The best bird in tho show was Mr T. Rattray's barred rock cockerel, shown in tho utility class, Mr Rattray also won the D-vi"" memorial cup for the b?st cockerel or pullet in the show, and tho Zouch cup. Ti.o Conway oup was won by Mr A. \V. V. Clark, and tho Peter Donald memorial tup by Mr A. Thomson with a Black Orpington cockerel.
