CALEDONIAN PIPE BAND.

$ OPENING OF THEIR BAND ROOM.

The Canterbury Caledonian -Society's Pipe Band held a social gathering in the Caledonian Hall, tho occasion being tho opening of their ba,nd room. Mr C. S. Thomas, president of the Caledonian Society, occupied j tho chair, and associated'with him were Mr' G-. Brass, secretary of the Society, and Messrs G. Soy, "W - . Edginton, and. M. .7. ■Burns, directors of the band. Mr Thomas, in declaring the. room open, complimented the members of the band on the way they had worked. Hc-congratulated tho band on its efficiency, and said he had no doubt it would keep up the high standard it had attained-under the direction of the presont officers. Drum-Major Koss, in proposing tho toast of the directors of the band', thanked them for the .resistance they had given, and hoped that, the band could continue io look for their support. Messrs G-. Sey, VT. Edginton, and M. J. Burns responded, Baying that they bwl the interest of tho band at heart, ani as long as they were directors they would be prepared to do what they .-could: .for its welfare* Opportunity was taken during the evening to make a- presentation to Drummer "W. 11. "Whito, in recognition of his services as honorary secretary. In making the presentation, which consisted of a clock suitably inscribed, Mr Thomas sjpoko of tho splendid services rendered by Drummer White, and trusted that ho would long continue to act as secretary. Drum-Major Ross endorsed tho remarks made by the president, and added that the present they wero making in no way. recompensed the .secretary for tho. work ho had dona. Drummer White, in thanking the: band, said he had always ondeaToured to carry.'out his work to the be3t- of his ability. He was exceedingly pleased to think that hi 3 services were appreciated, and trusted that the members would continue to give him the same support in the future as they had don© in the past. During the evening items were given by Messrß C. Brass, Jtf. Down. J. Mcintosh, Drum-Major W. Ross, Corp. N..Morrison, Lance-Corp. M. I McDuff. Pipers J. Campbell and It. Inkster. I
