(BI CABLE—PBEB3 ASSOCIATION— OOPTBIOHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLB ASSOCIATION.)
HONOLULU, Juno 17.
The navaj transport Chaumont arrived to-day with a party of 12 Congressmen and their familiesj and 2,000,000 dollars of gold bullion. Tho Congressional party was welcomed by Admiral Coontz, and the bul-r lion was met by an armed guard of 1000 sailors. While local ladies adorned the Congressional party with flower garlands, after the traditional Hawaiian fashion, the gold was carefully removed to two. battleships. Upon the arrival of tho fleet in Australia ihe bullion will be deposited in local banks and drawn against in sterling to pay the men and purchase supplies. The -Congressmen will inspect tho fleet and the Pearl Harbour base. It had been hoped they might continue with the fleet to Australia, but the impending Session of Congress, which it is believed will consider the question of extending and strengthening harbour defences, makes" their presence necessary in Washington long "before the fleet returns from Australia.
