Ill© monthly meeting of tb<e'Burwood' Progressive Association was hold 'on Wednesday, when the following members wore present:—Hossrs J. Wilson' (president),.'R. Todhunter, D. Baird, V. Pankhurst, G. Lewis, J. MoKochnie, J. Liggins,. H. Bowse, F. Ross, W. Todhunter, and L.' B. Bradstock.
It was decided to afik the Waimaiii County Council to put an extra, electric light between the Hall and France! 1 street, and r,t Buxton's corner, between Bampton a road and Horse Shoe Lake road, and to fill up holes on CressweU avonuo.; A member referred to tho danger' that existed owing to the electric light pole at the corner of Racecourse road and River road being placed in the middle of the road,<; and it was suggested that tho matter be brought before, the notice of-.the New .Brighton Borough Council. It was pointed out by tho president that the Ilrainagc Board had so far failed to ciirry out the promised work on tho flood male's on Locksley avenue, Meinbei-s were unanimous in the opinion that a further request be sent, as at present many .acres of valuable land in the vicinity of the river are rendered useless. _ It was decided to entertain Mr J... rung, who after 27 years' residence, is leaving, the district. Mr D. Baird offered to provide tho refreshments for tho evening, and his offer was accepted with thanks. Mr G. Cusack was nominated as a member of the Association. ~-.,-. .', • Tho Social Committee reported that the social- evenings were being well attended and gave notice that on the next .evening a fancy dress ball would ho held.
