CANTERBURY MARKETS.
{by oce coimracnL editob.) Tuesday Evening. The only class of produce to attract notice since the week-end report are potatoes. The hold-up of digging operations on account of the. heavy weather oyer the week-end and the difficulty ot getting supplies from the farm to tho eeaboard are shortening prospective shipments north for the nest week or so, and as a consequence there is a firming in values, for spread as well as \ 6pot delivery. To £3 ; los is beipr, offered on trucks for prompt deliveries and £4 for July. Enquirjes aro comingfrom Auckland more freely, and information continues to be solicited from Australia. Two vessels are due to leave this week for Auckland, but theii cargoes promise, on account of the wet conditions to be small, whilst tho Timn.ru consignments, which have beer free enough for the past two months tt keep Auckland prices from hardening are also slackening off. The one crop that is difficult to estimate the yielc of observation is the potato crop, bin the experiences of growers are that yields are very variable, and on tho whole scarcely up to the normal. A firming, expected in many quarters for some time, may now materialise. Wheat offerings are still slow, and some millers will bo requiring imported wheat very shortly. Local mills have stocks in hand for a while, but it ; 'S expected that the North Island will be asking for wheat soon after the next month commences. Prospects of a heavy sowing for next year have been seriously impnired by the heaw rain. In the meantime wheat is in brisk de- J mand. .
