HOCKEY.
N.Z. ASSOCIATION. The Management Committee of the New Zealand Hookey Association met last evening. Present: Messrs H. S. J. Goodman (chairman), H. Throp, K. Gracie, P. N. Quartermain, A. Drayton, G. S. Strack, W. J, Franklin and W. H. Down (honorary secretary). Apologies were received from Messrs C. S. Bellamy and A. Preston. The Wellington Association wrote forwarding a suggestion for the controlling of the Test match against the Australians ensuring a financial success and asking that their scheme be circularised to other Associations. The Manawatu Association wrote accepting a match provisionally upon the Association not being asked to billet the team. The arrangement was accepted by the Australian sub-committee and approved. The Canterbury Association wrote requesting a match with the Australian team and entering a team in the shield tournament. The Waikato Association accepted the match allotted, being the thirct of the tour. The Auckland, Buller and Nelson Associations wrote accepting the dates and matches allotted. The kst-named Association also forwarded information regarding transport to Beeftoh. The South Canterßury Association wrote accepting a match at Goraldine. The Wairarapa Association accepted their match and stated that the game would be played at Carterton. Mr W. Rothwell, who accompanied the Australian team throughout the Dominion in 1922, wrote intimating that he had been appointed managex of the present tour, and arrangements were' well in hand for the selection of the Commonwealth team. The following itinerary was agreed upon for the Australian team:— Arrives in Wellington on July 14th. July 15th—Mumawafru, at Palmerston North. July 18th—Auokland. July 22nd—Waikato, at Hamilton, July 25th—Nelson. July 28th—Buller, at Westport. August Ist—Canterbury, at Cnristchuron. # August 4th—South Canterbury, at Geraldine.
August Bth-<-New Zealand at 'Wellington. August 13th—Wairarapa at Carterton. August 14th—Leave Wellington for Sydney. The secretary, Mr W. H. Down, waa appointed New Zealand representative to travel with the Australian team throughout the North Island. It was decided to ask all associations to nominate three ireferees for the local matches against the Australian team; the. New Zealand Association, reserving'the right to make the final appointment, and to ask the New Zealand Hockey Eefereea' Association to nominate the referees for the Test match from a list of referees supplied by the New Zealand Association, tho latter Association having the right to appoint the referees for the Test. Tho selectors were asked to select the New Zealand team, as early as possible. The matter of the colours to be adopted by the New Zealand team was left over till next meeting. Mr H. McGregor, "Wellington, was appointed manager of the New Zealand team in "Wellington. The Auckland Association forwarded a oha!lenge«for the Nordon Cup on behalf of the Opotiki Sub-Association, which was approved. The Auckland Association also asked for information regarding the arrangements for the ,Nordon Memorial Tournament and stating that it was proposed to hold the tournament for primary schools in the August ■vacation. The Association also forwarded £9 12s 6d towards the Manning Memorial Cup, also cheques covering affiliation feeß and tournament entry fees. The Nelosn Association also entered a team for the ehield tournament, and forwarded a donation of £5 5s towards tho Manning Memorial Cup. Tho Canterbury Association also entered a team for the ehield tournament. Tho Wellington Association entered two teams in the shield tournament and also forwarded a challenge for tho Junior Challenge Shield, and a donation of £3 3s towards the Manning Memorial Cup. It also favoured the forming of «, separate association with headquarters at Carterton.
MALVERN ASSOCIATION. The Malvern Ladies' Hockey Association's competition was continued on Saturday under very odverso weather conditions. The matches, resulted as follows: . Springfield 2, drew with Sheffield 2. Referee, Mr J. Greenfield. Darfield i, defeated Grcendale 3. Referee, Mr G. E. Bean. The position of the tcam3 ia as under:— P. W. L. D.Pts.
Nelson is not the only place with climatic conditions to produce excellent green peas in the winter (says the Wanganui "Chronicle")- A local amateur gardener of St. John's Hill can ,show declares the "Chronicle, ' a number of green peas, French beans, and butter beans, all well developed, which he had taken from rows planted in February last. The plants, he explained, wero still in flower. He was able to have excellent vegetables of all kinds grown in his own garden the year round. ______
