BACHELORS' BALL AT HAREWOOD.

In tho Harewood Hall a very successful ball was given on Thursday by the bachelors, and the annual function proved one of the best held in Harewood. The hall was tastefully decorated with blue and white streamers and evergreens. About fifty couples took part in the grand march, which was led by Miss Jack and Mr Maurice Webb, the duties of Master of Ceremonies being carried out by Mr Frank Burnip. WEDDINGS. BROW'N-BRGOKE. A very quiet wedding, but one of much interest to soldiers who served in the late war, was solemnised recently at St. Matthew's Church, St. Albans, when Miss Evelyn Gertrude Brooke, 11 B.C. (late matron of Rannerdalo Home, Papar.ui), was married to Mr W. J. Brown, of Nelson. The bride, who wore a smart tailored travelling costume of navy blue garbircord and becoming toque and carried a beautiful bouquet of crimson roses, was given away by Col. P. O. renwick, C.M.G. The bridegroom, who also saw service in the Great War, was attended bv Mr G. Ward, of Riccarton. "After the ceremony the bridal party was entertained by Mrs A. Templer a« her residence, Ranfurly street, those present being Mesdames P. C. Fenwick, M. P. Knight, H. Moddings, Misses Templer, Kendall, Beswick and Knight, and some of the soldiers from Ranncrdale Home.

WOODING—HARDCASTLE. The wedding of Miss Dorothy Clara Hardcastle, M.A., of the staff of tho Timaru Girls' High School, and daughter of Mr and Mrs John Hardcastle, of Timaru, to Mi- Thomas Percival Wooding, son of Mr and Mrs J. Wooding, "Woodland Grange," Four Peaks, took place recently at St. Mary's Church. Timaru. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. H. Purchas, of Geraldine, and Mr Vine presided at the organ. The bride's dainty gown was of ivory silk eolienne and georgette, the slight drapings held at • the left sido with handsome pearl ornaments. Her long tulle veil was held in place by a half circlet of orange blossom, and she carried a shower bouquet of white chrysanthemums, pink roses, and maidenhair fern. She also wore a long string of pearls, the gift of the bridegroom. Miss Frances* Wooding,, who wa3 bridesmaid, wore a becoming frock of mauve brocaded crepe de eheno, and hat of silver grey georgette trimmed with' mauve. Her bouquet was of mauve and. lemon-flowers'. Two little flowergirls, Winsome and Naumai Squire, relatives of tho bride, wore dainty frocks of embroidered white organdi, with bandeaux and butterfly bow of mauve tulle, tied at the side of the head. Their posies were of white and lemon chrysanthemums, tied with mauve ribbons. Mr Scott Roberts attended the bridegroom as best man. -

After the ceremony a. reception was held at Ye Goorle Intentc Eoonis. Mrs Hardcastle, mother of the bride, wore a smart navy coat and skirt, and hat to match.' She carriod a bouquet of red roses and maidenhair fern. Mrs Wooding, mother of tho bridegroom, woro mole brocaded satin marocain) mole fur, and hat of brown hatter's plush with feather mount. Her bouquet was of bronze chysanthemums. Mrs Hawke, grandmother of the bridegroom, wore a black costume, black plush coat, and small black hat, with touches of white. also carried a bouquet. Later, the bride and bridegroom left for the north, the bride wearing a brown and. fawn tweed eostume, smart brown hat, and fur-trimmed coat. She carried a lovely bouquet of violets tied with purple ribbon, presented by the girls of Form IV. of the High School. A pretty attention offered to the bride at the church by the prefects of the school was tho presentation to her of a silver horseshoe tied with white satin ribbons. Mr and Mrs Wooding will motor through Marlborough before re turning south. , ... '
