AKAROA-WAINUI ROAD BOARD.

At the last monthly meeting of the Aka-wa-Wainui Koad Board there were present: Messrs B. A. Mould (c<bjurmsn),A. B. Haylock, S. J. Vogan, Job. Hayvhaid, Mid A. A. N&rbey. As tho outcome of repotrta on the Stoney Bay road, it was decided to have sundry re: pairs carried out oil the ocean eidt) of the range, and'to pay It. The foretnim stated that Mesars Aldridge and Shadbolt had already got about 830 yards of metal on BrocherieV rood. It wais decided to make & "progress payment of 75 per cent. . Permission was granted Mr W. 0. Newton, Paua Bay, to erect a private telephone line along the road to his • homestead there, provided tho usual conditions were observed. The Akaroa Borough Council . watote Stating its intention to put. in a culvert at the top of South street, and asking what assistance the Board was prepared to give, seeing that most of the water came off its district. 'lt waa deoided to pay half cost of the culvort provided the Council undertook to metal about throe chains of the road above and below the hospital. Mr Hayward reported that some of tho culverts in Piper's Valley required attention. Oknis's Bay road was also badly In need of repairs. Instructions Were given the .foreman to attend to these matters forthwith. Considerable discussion took place on the suggestion that the rates should \be inoieased in order that more attention might be given to the roads* The clerk said that lost year there was left a credit of £7BO, with rates outstanding amounting to £136. That meant that the Board had levied just within its revenue.
