FLAX-MILLING. (SPECIAL TO "TH® PBKBS.") GBEYMOUTH, Juno 12. Owing to a drop of £ 7 per ton in the price of flax, the Barrytown flaxmill has suspended operations. Boxing. At a meeting of the "West Coast Boxing Association it -was decided to hold the proyincial championships at Grevmoutk on July 25th. Two new members were elected. A Cold Snap. Snow fell during the night on the ranges in the vicinity of Greymouth. To-day's weather was appreciably colder- than any previously experienced this winter. Port of Greymouth. For the four-weekly period ending May. 23rd, the export of coal from Greymouth was 15,933 tons, comprised as follows: —State 6762 tons, Blackball 5196, Paparoa 2197, Reefton 285, Cooperative 1493. The timber exported was- 2,045,843 super feet. Personal. Mr W. Feay, sen., of Stillwater, has made a good recovery from his recent operation. Mr J. IX. Wingham has been advised of I)is appointment as manager of the New Zealand Rugby League team to tour Australia. He was one of tho pioneers of the now defunct Southland League, and has been president of the West-X'oast. League sinpe the inception of the game in this district.
Mr T. E. Y. Soddon delivered an address to-night on his experiences in America 'during the war to the membors of the Trinity Institute. Mr E. M. Williams, aeting-borough inspector, underwent an operation for appendicitis yesterday at the Grey Hospital and is reported to be making good progress.
The condition of Mrs W. Blair, who is an inmate of the Grey Hospital, 'is causing her relatives concern. The marriage was solemnised at St. John's . Church, Westport, of Miss Miriam Eooney, second daughter of Mrs Itooney, of Brougham, to Mr J. White, son of Mr and Mrs E. White, of Derby street. Miss Thelma. White was bridesmaid, and Mr M. Levestam best man. The Bev. Jermyn performed the ceremony. Mr and Mrs White left later for Christchurch on their honeymoon. R.A.0.8. A new lodge of tho Koyal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes is to be opened at Denniston on Monday. Supreme Court. A letter was received from : Mr ,J. • Perring, Kumara Junction, asking the Chamber to use its influence with the Government to further the settlement of tho. waste lands of the district. The chief problem was cheaper drainage, and £SOO would assist materially in the work. Small drains had proved efficacious in tho past. It was resolved to forward tho letter to the Minister of Agriculture.. . A.letter was received from.the Government Publicity League dealing with the* organising of. tourist propaganda. No action was taken.
A letter from the Tourist Department asked what literature was availablo for advertising the district at the Dunedin Exhibition.-. Tho. matter was referred to the local agent of tho Department. It was resolved to support the movement; for the completion of the coastal road. .
, A circular was received from the >Acting-District Traffic Manager of Railways advising time-table alterations./
The chairman sa'id the Chamber should go "into the matter of native leases when there was a larger attendance. , Mr Kitchingham said they were not likely to make as generous an offer again to the Natives. Congratulatory references were mads by-Mr Kettle to tho recent work of the Borough Council and Harbour Board. A motion was carried in favour of a reversion to afternoon meetings.
Whitebait. ''That the recent early run of whitebait was not to the Grey river is shown by. the catches which have been made at Hokitika and Westport. . Personal. Messrs A. H. Kintbell and J. A. C 'Bayne visited' the State mines to-day and made enquiries into the matters in dispute • between the management and the men. The marriage was solemnised at St. Mary's' Church, Hokitika, of Irene May Lincoln, youngest daughter of Mr 3 James Lincoln, of Revell street, to William Saunders Christensen, son of Mr and Mrs W. Christensen, of Bealey street. The Kov. Dr. Kennedy officiated. Miss Lottie Lincoln was bridesmaid, and Mr James Lincoln best man. After the .ceremony the happy couple left for the horth, where the honeymoon will be spent.
