DUNEDIN EXHIBITION.
HEATHCOTE'S QUOTA. The Heathcote County Council' decided last night to fall into line with the City Council and to subscribe £57 14s towards the cost of the Canterbury Court at the IJunedin Exhibition. ' A deputation consisting of Messrs W. Machin and D. Colquhoun, representing the Canterbury ProyiUcial Committee, waited l on the meeting.^ Mr Machin said that it had been decided that Canterbury should have representation at the Exhibition on. the same Bcale as the other provinces. - It had been found necessary to have 6000 square feet of space for the Provincial Court and to spend £6OOO on it._. Ashburton had agreed to raise £6oo"and South Canterbury £I2OO, and' the Christchurch City Council had) promised to contribute £1036 towards the cost. Other local bodies, had agreed, to contribute on the same scale, of Is for every thousand pounds of capital yalue of the district. All greats were made, conditional on the other local bodies contributing on the same scale. The Exhibition was now assured of _success, and any good* that came of it would be shared equally by those who contributed.
The chairman said the Council had authority to make the contribution. A member; We cannot afford it, but I suppose we -will have t6 fall into line. It -was decided to pay the quota of £57 14s provided the other local bodies did the same. .
