CASUALTIES.
—•■— A-child, -four years of age, named John Collister, of Kaiapoi, died at the Christchurch Hospital yesterday afternoon while under an anesthetic. He was taken to the Hospital in the morning for an operation. An inquest will be held at 2.30 p.m. to-day. An elderly woman named Jane Ogston, 68 years of age, residing at 74 Hewitt's road, died suddenly yesterday. She had been attended by a doctor, and an inquest will probably not be necessary. A man named O. Law, 19 years cf age, residing afc Flaxton, North Can : terbury was geting into a motor-car vesterday when-a shot-gun, which he was carrving. went off, the charge going ■ through "his hand and. through the top of the car. He was removed to tho Christchurch Hospital, where an operation was performed.

While walking on the footpath in the' citv, William Johnson (40), a tyre expert, was-struck on the head by a flagpolo, which fell from the Commercial Hotel, where building alterations are being earned out. His skull was fractured, but his condition is not serious. DANNEVIRKE, June 11. Yesterday afternoon Thomas Chapman, cook, aged about 79, was knocked down ;by a car driven by S. Walker, Raumati, and died later, in hospital with a fractured skull. Chapman was cross-, ing the street, and apparently did not seo the car coming.
