SHIRLEY SCHOOL FAIR.
A public meeting was held on Wednesday evening for the purpose of discussing the proposed fair for raising funds for the Shirley School. Mr Thompson (chairman), in opening the meeting, said money was needed for improvements in the school and grounds. Mr Simes said Mr Hill and hi 3 sisters had promised a donation of £IOO. The best, thanks of the meeting" to the donors was carried by acclamation. It was resolved that the fair be held on October 30th and 31st. The following proposals from the committee were endorsed by the'meeting: That an art union be organised, subject to the consent of tho Minister of Internal Affairs; that a fancy dress party for children bo held in the Wintou street Hall; that a bicycle mileage competition be held; that a jumble sale be held at an early date. The conveners appointed are as follows: Sewing stall,' Mrs Thompson:with Mrs Salt and Ives; tea stall, Mrs McKinley; cake stall, Mrs Balch; produce, Messrs Stanley and Soanes; plant stall, Mrs Balch; scholars'.stall, the staff; side-shows, Messrs Hunt and Burson;' half-hour concerts, Mesdames Lawn and Osborne;' ice cream and drinks, Mr. Finney; cut flowers, the staff; fancy . stall, . Mrs Burson; woodwork, .Mr Muir; bran tub, Mrs Anderson. Mrs Jackson offered to train some .children for a maypole dance. Apologies'for absence were received from Mesdamcs Benjes' and Faulls and Messrs Dalley" and. Benzes.
