At the fortnightly meeting of the Courtenay Social Club, the winners of the euchre prizes were: Ladies, Mrs C. McLennan Ist and Miss E. Seaton 2nd; gentlemen, Mr David Finlay Ist and Mr Seaton, jun., 2nd. A dainty supper was served by the ladies.

After a few very frosty davs, the weather changed on Mondav morning, when rain came up from the south-west. It continued to fall lightly most of the day, 14 points being registered. Tuesday was fine, with an easterly wind and a heavy fog in the evening. Early on Wednesday morning the wind again veered to the south-west, and rain fell all day, 33 points being registered at 5 p.m., making a total of 47 points. A spell of fine weather would be very acceptable just at present, as farmers are not able to get on with their team work owing to the sodden state of the land.

The members of the Kir wee Miniature Rifle Club have been engaged during the past fortnight shooting for a trophv presented by Mr F. L. MeKie. There wero seventeen entries, and those who qualified were: A. Williams (6) 29, F. Foster (2) 34, H. Foster (6) 31, A. G. Hart (2) 34, D. J. Smith (2) 35, Rev. T; Paterson (9) 28, J. Heseltine (6) 34, F. McNae (2) 35, Miss Guthrie (4) 32, R. McMeekan (5) 31, A. L. Stewart (4) 31, W. McLean (3) 35, A. Smith (5) 33, N. Kelly (5) 31, and J. G. Hamilton (2) 33.' In the final shoot-off J. Heseltine won. Heseltine also won the weekly challenge medal. The ladies' weekly challenge brooch was won by Mrs A. L. Stewart. . For the previous week's shoot Miss Guthrie .won' the challenge brooch and R. McMeekan tho challenge medal. HORORATA. Tho weather continues to be unsettled, heavy frosts being interspersed with rain. A very successful dance was held in tho Orange Hall, Hornby, to raise funds for the proposed tour.of the Hornby Rugby League fifth grade team. The hdl .was prettily decorated with crs and balloons. I The Akaroa Football Club is losing two of its prominent active members this week in Messrs Hubert Collins and ' Leslie Parris. Both men were entertained by the club on Wednesday evening at a "smoke-oh." Eulogistic references were made to their work for the club and to their athletic careers generally. The chairman (Mr T. E. MeKenzie) presented each with a suitable token of esteem and goodwill and wished them! both good luck and prosperity elsewhere. Mr Collins has for some years been assistant foreman to the Borough Council, while Mr Parris has been on the staff of the local Post Office and is now receiving, promotion to.. Christchurch.-

Miss Tilly Orme, cider daughter of Mr and Mrs A. W. Ornio, of Robinson's Bay, whose marriage takes place to--day, has been the guest of honour recently at functions arranged by friends. One of these took place in the Akaroa. Presbyterian Sunday school and another in the Robinson's Bay Schoolroom. On each occasion there was a. good attendance, Miss Orme being the. lecipient of a fine collection of useful articles for the future home. At both functions the Rev. F. J. Tylee extended to Miss Orme the hearty good wishes of all concerned for her happiness.
