W. Scobie is back again at Riccarton and p.part from abrasions on the face, looks little the worse for his nasty spill off Bonomel at Dunedin. Murihaupo has been operated on for throat 'troubles,- and will probably be spelled for a Avhile before being put into work for next season's racing. Messrs G. Gould and J.....5. Barrett have been appointed to represent the Canterbury Jockey Club at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Racing Conference next month. It is now practically certain that Bonct.ter has seen the last of the race track, and this well-parformed mare will be sent to the matrons' paddock at Mr Kemball's stud farm.
A Press Association telegram from Ash burton gives the following additional acceptances for the Ashburton Trotting Club's Winter Meeting:—Longbeach Handicap, Welcome Whispers; Acton Handicap, Oakland and Moonlit; Stewards' Handicap, Wire. Whipcord was sore after the Dunedin. Winter fixture, and his kneecs seem to be the seat of the trouble. He did not jump too well at Wingatui, and will need' to show some improvement, if he is to reward his trainer's patience at the later Winter Meetings. Count Cavour has been doing light exercise for some time, but is now a regular attendant on the tracks at Riccarton. The dual Derby winner was not allowed to lose much of his muscle, and looks in nice order to recommence serious work. . The nominations received for the. Banks Peninsula . Meeting are disappointing in the matter of numbers, but ail those engaged are likely to be seen out and A very interesting day's racing should be put through at Motukarara on Saturday week. - Two yearlings by. the imported horse King John are being handled for Mr T-..H. Lowry by L. Gray. One is from War Talk, the dam of Suomi, now a prominent handicap performer in Australia, and the other from Landbird, dam of Chimera and Landbird. Both youngsters are well spoken of hi Hawke's Bay. The Ashburton Trotting Club's Meeting to-morrow and on Saturday gives promise of being very successful. Very little rain has fallen at Ashburton this week; in fact a light nor'-wester was blowing yesterday afternoon and the track is already in' good order. Special passenger trains will leave Christchurch at 9 a.m. and 9.20 a.m. each day. During an interval of the racing at Otaki, the members took occasion to pass resolutions regretting the deaths of the late Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey and of Mr Ben Ling, formerly president of the Club. A resolution of sympathy with Sir James Carroll, the newly-electe'd president of the club, who was absent on account of illness, was also carried.
