IN BANKRUPTCY, j (SPECIiL TO "THX PEESS.") GEEYMOUTH, June 10. A petition in bankruptcy -was filed to-day by Wm. John Dennehy, contractor, of Ten Mile. ■*■ statement, of his position discloses that his liabilities are •as follows: —Unsecured creditors. £455 6s lid; secured creditors, £130; total, £505 6s lid. His assets are £BO. Mr A. Naylor, Deputy Official Assignee, presided at a meeting of creditors this afternoon in the bankrupt estate of John McDonald, miner, of Blackball. The meeting -was adjourned sine die. Bankrupt's unsecured-creditors were: T. Crankshaw, £3; Armstrong and Haisty, £65; J. Bortie, £1 15s; J. Fisher, £4 10s; H. Chilton, £l2 10s; total, £B6 15s. His assets were nili The bankrupt stated that he was compelled to fllo through Armstrong and Haisty taking out an attachment order against his Wages, which would allow only £2 per week for the upkeep of his wife and family and himself. His wages were approximately £1 per day, but the mine did not work full time. H,e was unable to makto any offer at present. At the meeting of creditors of Oscar Harry Brnilsford, a bankrupt builder, the liabilities were set out as follows: —Ashby, Bergh and Co., £l9l 18s 3d; Stratford. Blair and Co., £312 4s 9d; Charles Crams, £152 10s 4d; Deere Bros., £l9; Duncan, McLean, Ltd., £24 5s lid; W. Scott and Co., £,12 18s lid; Harrison and Petherbridge, £27 4s; W. Hill, £27 0s 9d; 'Greymouth Motors, Ltd.* £8; A. A. Airey, £3 4s 3d., The assets were £162. The meeting was adjourned sine die to enable bankrupt to produce his wages book, receipts, and a statement of receipts from contracts and payments since Soptember Ist, 1924. The creditors decided not to take possession of his furniture and tools. Punakaiki Sections. Twenty-six sections at " Punakaiki were submitted by auction at Hokitika to-day. Bidding was far from brisk, and only six sections were sold. ~The following were the sales:—Section 1, S l . Kitchingham, £25; Section 15, Mrs K. T. Webb, £65 (upset and £4OO for improvements); Section 26, W. T. Morpeth, £2O; Section 27, E. and C. Bobb, £2O; Soction 28, J. Fitzsimmons, £l6; Section 38, A. C. Thompson, £ls. Licensing Committee. The annual meeting of the Westland Licensing Committee was held to-day at Hokitika. Present: Messrs W. Meldrum, S.M. (chairman), C. J. Nightingale, W. Campbell, J. Kyle, F. McGregor, and H. J. Bignoll. The police reports were very satisfactory. - were granted as follows:—Transfers, .10; new licenses for old houseß, 24; renewals, 47; renewals of accommodation licenses, 11; wholesale licenses, 6; wine licenses, 1. In tho case of several applications, the Bench decided on adjournments for throe months, Theft. ' Reginald Kerr Goodwin, of Aickens, appeared this morning before Messrs W. .K. Kettle and F. W. Shallorass, J.P.'s, charged with the theft of insulated copper wire of the value of £l, the property of the Government. He was fined £2 and costs, and a prohibition order was issued against him. The Late Kt. Hon. E. J. Seddon. Wreaths were placed on the statue of the late Eight Hon. B. J. Seddon s at Hokitika to-day. Kumara's Jubilee. It is proposed to celebrate Kumara's jubilee, which falls early in 1926, in a fitting manner, and the Mayor will call a meeting shortly to make preliminary arrangements. Whitebait. The mild weather of the past couple of days has induced an early run of whitebait, in the river, and a loeal resident secured over a pint this morning. Personal. Mr J. Regan, formerly of; Millerton, was honoured.by his friends at Westport, and presented with a case of pipes.'':' --■ Mr G..H. Russell, Health ; officer .for the. West Coast district,: has received notice of transfer to Blenheim. Mr James Kyle has been appointed to the Westland Licensing Committee, succeeding Mr F. H. Kilgour, who recently resigned, Mr R. D. Taylor, of the Westport Telephone Exchange, ,ha 3 received notice of transfer to Otaki. Mr T. McKenzie, caretaker of tho Westport Trotting Club's grounds, is seriously; ill. Mr J. T. White, of the railway staff, Westport, was made the recipient of a presentation by his colleaguos in honour his approaching marriage. Mr A. Steven, stafionmaster, presided, and asked Mr Whito t8 accept a dinner service and silver entree dish.
Supreme Court. There are no criminal cases for the forthcoming sittings of the Supreme Court at Gre'ymouth and Hokitika, but a considerable amount of other business has been listed. v Mining Blatters. Work will be resumed at the State mines to-morrow. Bugby Football. The West Coast Eugby Union decided at a special meeting this morning to play the Dittman Shield match against Westland at Hokitika on Saturday. The senior , club fixtures arranged at last night's meeting have been postponed.
