In his speech Lord Forstor said the Government intended to legislate to restrict the influx of aliens. In connexion with civil aviation the Government was taking steps to extend the existing services. A, measure would be submitted tor the appointment of a North Australian Commission to solve the problem of tho more effective occupation of the northern parts of tho Commonwealth and their full development, having in view the l ultimate establishment of a new State, or States, in the north on a selfcgDveroing basis. A Bill would be submitted with the object of diminishing conflict between | Federal and .State arbitration jnrisdic- | tion, securing the observance of the awards of Courts, and increasing the efficiency of the machinery for the settlement of industrial disputes. Other measures would he introduced for the removal of the anomalies and defects which the -administration -of the Australian Industries Preservation Act had revealed* also to give assistance in tho direction of assuring the regular and orderly marketing of produce and improving the process of distribution. arising out of the investigations of the Tariff Board regarding the effect off the existing tariff on primary and se/fcondary industries would also he subm&ted.
Tl#a Governor-General took the opportunity of bidding farewell to the people of. Australia, stating that his term of affico expired in Octoher. After formal proceedings in the House of Representatives, Mr Bruce (Prime Minister) moved a motion expressing regret at the death of Mr Masßey, paying a fine tribute to the dead statesman.
