kaiapoi. •;.. '■ IW-fortnightly 'meeting of the Kaiapoi Borough Council was hold last night. Present; Tho Mayor (Mr H. Mcintosh), and Crs. A. Moore, W. H. Stark, J. Hirst, R. J. Shmn.W. G. Winter, G. . J.'AV.. Baraaxd, P. Thorno, and A. 'Johnson. The -Minister of Labour foiwarded a copy of the Gazette notice appointing Thursday a* the'half-holiday in the borough us from May 25th. V -' '- Mr C. H.' Wright, Town Clerk for tho past 20 years, wrote tendering' his resignation on account of ill-health. Ho conveyed hid thanks to the-. Mayor and Councillor for the kindness shown hiin during' his long term of office. ... . The resignation was accepted with regret, the Mayor eulogising' tho l:ng and faithful Bervico given by Mr Wright. ' , C Mis*. R. Linklater wrote applying for a lease of Section 64 at' '."The Pines." ■The was deferred until the area of the .section had been decided. The. .Town CUrk, Christchurch, wrote asking if. the resolutions adopted at the ■ conference regarding heavy-, traffic by-laws had been approved by the Council. The .resolutions wore approved. Mr.T. K. Leithcad wrote, accepting the position as one of the Council's representatives .on the Kaiapoi Fire Board. Mr P. R. Debcnhara submitted a report on tho repairs required to the roof of the municipal buildings, and offered to.carry out the work for the sum of £l2: It was decried that the repairs should be carried out. ••••-._ -. .- ; The Kaiapoi Beautifying Association submitted .a eummary of the work undertaken by the (Association in.support of a gran.t of £l2 °- ■''-,, 'j ,-. Tho question of a grant was deferred until th« annual estimates were being considered. The Marlborough Electric Power Board wrote asking to be supplied .with all possible data as to tho Council's experience with ironbark ' polea and mixed hardwood poles. It was decided to supply the information asked fcr. I A letter was received from the Prime Minister stating that tho citizens of Axickland had taken the initial steps in what the Government hoped will becomo a national movement, viz., raising funds for a suitable memorial <o tho late Prime Minister,' and I inviting tho co-operation of the Mayer and | citizens. [ The whole Council wa3 appointed a committee to deat with tho . matter, and it was decided to call a public meeting.. The Mayor stated that he had been | granted an option for 15 days ever 10 acres of land adjoining the Kaiapoi- Park, at £6O per acre. j The Mayor and Crs. Duun and Barnard ■were appointed a, committee to interview the ' owner as to tho conditions of purchase. Tho Mayor reported that tho Mayors of Rangiora. • and Kaia,poi proposed to present a. shield for competition between tho various sports bodies in tho two towns. It waa decided to call a meeting of representatives of rports bodies to discuss tho conditions of tho competition. The 'financial statement showed a credit balance of £O2 13s 3d.
