TEST FLIGHTS.
LIGHT 'PLANES AND BALLOONS. (M CABli-P»«S8 (AUSTBAUAH **» »■*• C«l<* ABSQCUttOJf.) BERLIN, June 8 - Twenty-six of the light airplanes having completed the fourth lap of the flight, 38, including four "babies,", have started on the Sixth and last circuit of 600 miles. The flight so far has shown that none of the machines under 40 horsepower completed the four circuits. Eight under 80 horse-power succeeded, and 15 were successful in the ;maximum hdrse-power class.
Four of the balloons participating in the ra«e for the Gordon-Bemett Crip have qilreay ©onie to earth, including the British balloon Elsie, which had to land at Etaples, ana was subsequently destroyed. Two otheirs, Spanish and Trench, also descended in France. Later. Eight more balloons participating in the Gordon Bennett race landed in France, comprising three Italian, . two British, and one each of American, Bel&ian, and Swiss.' VATESi,AND RESCUES AMERICAN. (r&ctbb's TELXORfnaO (Received June 9tb, 13.10 a.m.), LONDON, June 9. A wireless from the German steamer Vaterland reports that she followed a drifting balloon which showed the S.O.S. 20 miles west of Ushant. It prove*! to be tho American balloon Good Year 111. The Vateflahd saved the crew. . Advices frpqi Ghent state that a pigton message from tho Belgian balloon Belgica says that the pilot is attempting to proceed southward as it is jmpupsible to manoeuvre to England. Much has been thrown out.
