Who Will Rule in N.S.W.?
It will bo interesting to watch how far the now Labour Government of New South Wales—if the Puller Government is defeated—will be controlled by its own Left Wing. During the election campaign the ■ "moderate" section was so embarrassed by the allegiance of tho extremists that some members of the Party repudiated them altogether, but the Beds remained cheerfully "loyal." They not only made it clear that they wished to be carried to victory on the backs of the Labour Party, but declared with disconcerting candour what they would do if placed in a position to control a Labour Government. Two days before the election, the militant section announced that it anticipated being able to control the forthcoming conference of the Australian Labour Party, and, by using that power, to dominate any Labour Cabinet that the voting might call into existence. Nor did their manifesto leave much to the imagination of the electors. It proclaimed boldly that the aim of the Beds was the socialisation of all "key" industries throughout the State within six months. It sought to dazzle trade unionists, among whom its manifesto was circulated, with the prospect of State-owned. industries, State' Owned means of transport and communication, the socialisation of wholesale trade, the annulment of public debts, and monopoly of foreign trade—not to mention the control of all important printing establishments and newspapers. The Beds are within sight of their first objective. Whether they will be in a position to carry out the remaining items on their programme depends on the strength of their direct representation within the new- Labour Government and their ability to control tho next A.L.P. Conference.
