CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
' The fortnightly social evening of the Can-! terbury Caledonian Society was held at the Caledonion Halt on Monday and was attended by a- large number of members and friends. The chair was occupied by the president/Mr. C 8. Thomas, who was supported by. Mr ' G." Sey ' (vice-president) and Ur J. T.'Caldow (airectore).'- ;MrV J. v -Chisholm, Chief of the Scottish Society,, was also'on the platform. The programmo wias in the' hands of Messrs B. M. Donaldson and E.: Wilson, two directors of tho Society, and the following contributed items:—Songs by" Mr D. Colville, Miss Ethel Brown, Mrs D." A. Donn, Mr Bracy Wilson, Mrs E. H. Davies, Mies K. Chappell, Miss Eaglesome and Mr Law. Mr Pickup gave a violin solo; "The Highland Fling was danced by Miss Gracio Smith, Seann Triubhais, Miss Vera Poeock, sword dance, Miss Freda Woodcock, Irish Jig, Mies Mabel Irvine, and Highland Beel by Misses N. Clark, M. Irvine, Masters L. Cox and M. Cox. . The accompanists for the evening were Mrs E. A. Smith,- Mrs„H. Ford, Miss Neate, Mrs L Brown, Mies, Brooks, and Miss B. Pollard. Soine thirty; people were made members'of-the' : Society,' which brought the grand total of new members for 'the ■" season" 'up to "86. During the evening, Mr J. Chisholm, vicepresident of the North Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Pipers' find Dancers' Association, took the opportunity to present two gold medals to Miss Violet Robertson and Mr A. Mclntyre. These medals were won at the first provincial championship, meet-, held' under the Canterbury Centre' of the New Zealand Pipers 'and Dancers' Association at Amberley last New Year's Day, and were awarded to Miss Robertson and Mr Mclntyre for Highland dancing and piping.
