AMATEUR OPERATIC SOCIETY.
ANNyAL MEETING. The annual meeting of members of the Christchurch Amateur Operatic Society was* held on Monday evening, ,Mr ;G.; M. Hall presiding over a largo attendance. ■ ■ } The secretary submitted the balance-sheet, showing a small'lces o'n the recent production of He explained that tho loss would have'been serious but for the fact that the Auckland Operatic 'Society, J.' C. Williamson, Ltd., and ~tba three Christchurch newspapers had' 'mot them with liberal discounts, .and.'smaller creditors haS done what ithoy could; to help. The stage hands had also assisted. On the- chairman's motion, a vote of thanks was accorded to the above-mentioned people for their valuable assistance.^ Professor. Shelley 'wa» elected president;Messrs R. A, Horne and C. Raphael, vice-presidents; Mrs F. H."Ansley,-'Miss A. Richardson, Messre G. M. Hall, J. J. Hall, A. W. Brown, L. EL Clemens, F. P. Morrison and D. McKivott members of the committee; Mr H. S. Hobbs wqs elected hon. treasurer; Mr I. J. Wilson, A.PA.N.Z., hon. auditor. A.vote of thanks was accorded Mr Wilson for auditing the last balance-sheet. The meeting decided' to endeavour to produce another opera before the end of ; tho year. '.,. # • At the close of the meeting,/ Mrs G. L. Donaldson was accorded "a' very'' hearty vo"!<» 1 of thanks for her valuable assistance as hon. 'pianist. To show their appreciation, the committee made her'a'handsome presentation, which Mrs' Donaldson suitably acknowledged, and expressed the hope that she would be able to carry on the work in the future.
